Whitefly

Tiny white winged insects that cluster on the undersides of leaves. When you brush the plant, a cloud of them lifts off. They suck sap and leave sticky honeydew that grows sooty mold.

• Clouds of tiny white flies rising when you disturb a plant.
• Yellowing, wilting leaves.
• Sticky honeydew and black sooty mold on lower leaves.

• Hang yellow sticky traps near affected plants.
• Spray undersides of leaves with insecticidal soap every few days.
• Encourage ladybugs and lacewings — both eat whitefly nymphs.
