Spider mite

Spider mite

Leaf stippler

Watch out

What it is

Microscopic sap-suckers. Thrive in hot, dry, dusty conditions and multiply fast. Leaves look faded and stippled with tiny dots; fine webbing appears under leaves in bad infestations.

What you'll see

  • Yellow or bronze stippling on the tops of leaves.
  • Fine silky webbing on the undersides of leaves and between stems.
  • Leaves drying out, curling, and dropping.

How to prevent them

  • Spray plants down with water every few days in hot, dry weather.
  • Keep plants well-watered — stressed plants attract mites.
  • Use insecticidal soap or neem for heavy infestations.
