Garden spider

Yellow-and-black or brown spiders that build large webs between plants. They eat flies, mosquitoes, moths, and beetles. Not aggressive — they'd rather run than bite.

• Large circular webs stretched between plants or stakes.
• Fewer flying pests in the area.

• Leave webs alone when you can — they're free pest control.
• Don't spray broad-spectrum insecticides that kill spiders along with pests.
